I saw a couple of bumper stickers that explains why we have only ever had dogs.
They are:
"My dogs are smarter than your honor student"
&
"My dogs are better behaved than your kids"

Thanks cosy, I certainly hope I will be! But I don't have to worry about that for many more years.

Better behaved for sure. Plenty of kids can't follow directions while dogs can. Just dumb. And it is quite possible that the dogs are smarter. I feel as though we have really lowered our standards for kids these days.

lol rr...its true, people will get their dogs trained but refuse to train their kids--sad state of our country.
we have no standards for kids anymore--they RULE their families now, parents just havent learned how to say NO to them...the crap they get away with now would have gotten me spanked, yelled at for hours (my mom was really good at the guilt sermons) or/and grounded for years!
I was astonshed when my oldest brothers 2nd kid got away with stuff --he was sent to his room where he had a computer with all the latest computer games on it---exactly what kind of punishment is that??? (and a tv phone etc). Back when I was a kid being sent to your room meant something as there was no tv there, no phone, only books some stuffed toys and lots of time to do ...nothing. (still have no tv in my bedroom and its going to STAY that way).
but now we cant spank our kids as that is child abuse, we cant yell at them since that is child abuse too---but you can still say NO to them, as well as send them to their rooms AND remove the tv, phone, computer and games from it. (or have a room where you have none of that to begin with that you can send them to).

good thing I didnt have kids.

Amen cosy, amen. All very true. Parents are too afraid to hurt their kids feelings. They are too busy trying to be their friend instead of their parent. Not a good thing at all, no matter what they think.

well happy dads day to those who are...

in other news, my clock/radio (yes I still have one--got it in high school--yes that makes it over 30 years old), died...well, it slowed down...started up again and then got stuck on 11:11....had a few times yesterday it was off by hours...and finally wouldnt move today
had to go out and get a new one for the bedroom...spent about 15 minutes trying to plug the dang thing into the outlet behind the dresser (which is too heavy to move)...and scraped up my arm quick a bit...all this for a stupid radio....wonder what appliance will die next (fridge is on the fritz and since its also waaay out of date I guess we will just continue to listen to it thunk when it goes off).....

well enjoy this hot day.

Oih geez, that is an old clock radio! My mom had her fridge for 25-26 years before she got a new one, same with her old stove. Crazy how the old stuff seems to last a lot longer than newer stuff. Darn designing it to break...

Hot day? Today was meh, tomorrow and Tuesday? Hot as balls out.

fridge is 27 I believe (the washer and dryer are older and work JUST FINE)...clock radio got in I think 80-82....the radio part stopping working mid-late 90's (if you did wake to music...you wouldnt get any music!)...so the clock still was working---but...alas...

stuff made in the 70's was made to last, stuff made after that was made to die when the warranty ended.

been hot here...a/c was on a 6am this morning (what the heck I was doing awake a 6am on a sunday---got me there)....and yeah...supposed to be in the 90's all week long too

Don't they say that old fridges are not as efficient? My washers always break after 5 years

it may be...but with my set-up there is no way to remove it from the kitchen right now (it would have to go out OVER the balcony and I am on the 3rd floor!)...so it had BETTER keep working until we can move out of this boat anchor!

our washer is from the early/mid 80's (kenmore--this is about the ONLY thing that sears does/did well) and the dryer I think is older--only fault it has is a broken knob (there are 2 knobs--one is never used so we pulled it off and put it in the others place)....

Oh geez, that does not sound like a fun time trying to remove it...

We have gone through 3-4 washers and are on the 2nd dryer as far as I know. I guess that is what happens when you have to do 6 peoples laundry. It gets worn out quicker since mom was doing laundry probably 5 out of the 7 days a week. Crazy.

well the dsl modem went wanky today...sometimes I could load a page, most times couldnt...guess our occasional power outages have taken a toll on the old thing (yeah another appliance we will probably need to replace, good thing this one is small and cheap!)...and yes its in a ups, but for some reason when the ups resets (everyday or so) it has a tendency to kick the power off ....dumb thing it is (its our like 5th ups too....talked to our dsl rep and he said our electricity is probably to blame for our issues and we should get a ups that deals with these kinds of things)...oy dont want to buy another ups those are heavy AND expensive

I hate DSL. Mine won't load a page, then I have to reload, and by doing that it loads. Someday I shall have broadband internet again and be a bit happier. Someday... Sounds like the DSL rep is trying to blame it on everything but them. Love that.

by then broadband wont be so broad--all the bandwitdh will be gone and you would be faster on DIALUP! (never will get that from the craaaaapy cable company, lucky the stupid cable is still working!). And I have no plans to get dsl from the even stupider phone company! My eggs are in different baskets for sure--if the cable goes out (which it does) I still have phone and internet, if the phone goes --I still have internet, if the internet goes--I still have the phone to call the dsl rep !
Life was so much simplier before all of these things....no cell phones when I was in school, no computers until high school...cable didnt exist and people sent LETTERS to one another (and bday cards)....I remember using the pay phones in high school to call my mom...I also remember gas being under $1 -------

I've always had good luck with internet from Comcast. Haven't really had bad luck with my DSL either, so I guess that is nice, but it just isn't near as fast as I would like. There is definitely some lag when I play online games.

Uh oh guys, Cosy is start to reminisce about the good ol' days! RR, she needs your help!

I was waiting for her to tell us how she had to walk miles to school through a blinding blizzard with just a light coat and no boots. The good old days.

lol
but we did have to WALK to school (unlike my nieces and nephews who got driven to the bus stop --why not just drive them all the way to school???)

and I do remember a really good blizzard or two..one in which I was student teaching and had to walk from the college campus to the high school (about 1 mile away) since none of the cars could get there (though somehow the buses did--)....

and what are these boots???

lol Sad panda always gets a laugh. Though it shouldn't.

My parents told me that and that it was uphill both ways. Never could figure that one out.

I had to walk in a blizzard when I was in college. Had to go to class through the blinding snow storm. Snow lets up about 11am. They then go ahead and cancel all afternoon classes... I had all morning classes, my gf (now fiancee) only had afternoon classes... The snow stopped before they cancelled classes. Jerks...
